"Nothing But Net" With the internet such a powerful source of communication and information,
and YUHSG such an exciting force in the world of Jewish education,
it's no wonder that when the two meet,
there's lots to talk about! Here are just a few recent "site"-ings: |
|
"Hail to the Chief" From the official website of the Orthodox Union comes the announcement that "NCSY Welcomes Its New National President,
Miriam Shapiro of Great Neck." YUHSG senior
Miriam Shapiro's assumption of the NCSY
presidency caps an impressive career of activism and involvement in the Orthodox Union's international youth organization. The announcement describes her as a "very accomplished" young woman,
"very responsible,
passionate,
and committed," and NCSY has every confidence in her inspirational leadership and future success. Click here for the complete article. |

"Forward" Motion
The official website of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Dolan DNA Learning Center indicates that YUHSG has the distinction of being one of only three yeshiva high schools that are Curriculum Study Program Members,
with six years of participation to our credit.
And an article entitled "'Names,
Not Numbers:' Listening to the Stories Told by Holocaust Survivors" appears on the website of the "Jewish Daily Forward," profiling
Mrs.
Tova Fish Rosenberg and the documentary film project that has become such an important part of senior year at Central. Click here to read the full article. |

Honorable Mention Another connection to Central can be found on the website of the United Jewish Communities Jewish Federations of North America,
which has been welcoming nominees for its Jewish Community Hero Award,
"celebrating service,
recognizing leaders,
repairing the world." Among the nominees who have distinguished themselves by their "exceptional qualities" and their service to the Jewish community is
Sharon Weiss Greenberg of Cambridge,
Massachusetts. A former faculty member at YUHSG,
she is Rosh Moshava at Camp Stone and currently serves as Director of the Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus at Harvard University.
She is also pursuing a PhD in Education and Jewish Studies at New York University as a Wexner Davidson Scholar.
Some of our other "heroes" this week: Alumna
Leah Fried (‘04),
profiled in the Fall,
2009 edition of "YU Today," who is pursuing a master's degree in genetic counseling at Sarah Lawrence College,
and whose honors thesis at Stern College explored the scientific and ethical issues associated with Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)... Senior
Nicole Siegel,
awarded a Certificate of Merit for her "research efforts and fine work" on "Honest and Dishonest Graft: Tammany Hall Corruption and Modern Day Corruption," her entry in the 2009 New York State Archives Student Research Award competition. She is the only yeshiva high school student in New York State to achieve this recognition...
Faculty member
Ms.
Miriam Borenstein, who delivered a
shiur to the Young Israel of West Hempstead Sisterhood's "Young at Hearts" program,
entitled "Winning the Lottery and Yom Kippur"...
Alumna
Cindy Bernstein ('02),
who now adds a prestigious Wexner Foundation Graduate Study Fellowship to her extraordinary list of accomplishments in a stellar career of community service and activism...

Lila Bleich and 10
th

Ariella Lunzer,
who are coordinating "The Emunah Project" at Central this year,
a program designed to address the complex questions of faith that "students ponder and are too embarrassed or afraid to ask." The goal is to address those challenging questions "in an intellectual,
thoughtful and understanding manner," with a schedule of workshops,
guest speakers,
and other programming. |

‘State(s)' of the Art Every ten years,
the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools revisits accredited institutions for evaluation,
and although we can't quite believe that it's actually been ten years (!),
YUHSG will be hosting a team from Middle States on November 9
- 12. Parent and student volunteers are needed to serve as liaisons to the committee,
to ensure that their visit is enjoyable,
educational and informative. If you are available to lend a hand and/or are willing to be interviewed by the committee,
please contact Mrs.
Brand. In addition,
it's important for us to get feedback from you by means of a survey especially prepared for this purpose. To access the questionnaire,
